Mt. ra2 6 - 1 Translation

American and Japanese school systems are almost the same because Japan followed the American school system after World War II. However, the Japanese students' way of spending their school days is different, especially at the high school level, from the American students' way.
One thing which brings about this difference is the policy about entrance exams. Entrance exams are the tests that students take to enter college or university. Japanese high school students who wish to get a college education, which is needed to get a good job, have to take difficult entrance exams before entering a university. These exams cover three or four subjects in great 'depth. While Japanese students take these tests, American students are usually not required to take entrance exams. Even students who do not make high grades in high school still have the chance to go to college and show to society that they deserve an education.
There is an interesting contrast between the ways that Japanese and American high school students spend their time away from school. Very often it is not enough for Japanese students to study only at school in order to prepare for entrance exams. To solve this problem, there are many private special schools. Classes for entrance exam preparation are given there. So if a student wants to enter a good university or college, he cannot even go to the movies on weekends. Studying for exams all the time sometimes makes high school life unhappy. American students, on the other hand, usually have time to enjoy all kinds of extra activities in high school. They enjoy sports, dancing, music, drama, or just being with friends. American high school students seem to be really enjoying their lives. But is this the best way for high school students?
Neither system is ideal. There is a big problem about the college entrance system in Japan, and most students have a strong dislike for it. Perhaps the problem in the American school system is that the students have too much freedom at the high school level. Some students may not try hard because they think they will always have a second chance to succeed somewhere along the way.
